Powder cocaine (also called coke), freebase and crack are all forms of cocaine. They’re all powerful stimulants, with short-lived effects. They temporarily speed up the way your mind and body work, but the effects are short-lived.

    What are the effects?

    • Like speed, cocaine can make you feel

          very alert and confident.

    • Under the influence of cocaine, people

are really talkative, confident and some

          may say arrogant.

    • The effects are quite short, but there is a

stong temptation to take more or 'Top Up'.

What are the risks with cocaine?

    • Because the effects are short lived, people who use cocaine find they want more and more, increasing the risk of addiction.

    •

    • Cocaine users have died from overdoses. High doses can raise the body's temperature, cause convulsions, a heart attack and heart failure.

    • Snorting cocaine can damage the inside of your nose and mouth.

    • Mixing cocaine with other drugs like alcohol is very risky and can lead to problems.

    • Using cocaine over the long term can make people feel depressed and run down.

    • It can lead to serious problems with anxiety, paranoia and panic attacks.
